Schrecklich geschrieben! Bin nicht über die ersten Seiten rausgekommen...auf jeden Fall nichts für Leute die noch nicht viel über ted Bundy wissen..

... that is where this book will take everyone who uses his chance and read it.I have read three other books about Bundy, including "The Only Living Witness", also written by Michaud & Aynesworth, but this book is the best you will ever find. Well, some times it is really hard to follow the facts Bundy is talking about ... and there you have parts that you have to read more the one time, if you want to understand what this man, who may have killed more than 35 young women, is talking and thinking about. And this book is like a ticket ... a ticket for a journey into a mind of a serial killer, whose popularity was mostly pushed by the US media. Bundy is not only remembering his childhood, but he is also "speculating" about the behaviour of a psychopath killing all the women Bundy was linked to himself. He takes the reader out into the night and describes how he searched his victims, how he attacked them and especially what changes in his life lead to this development.Sometimes it is really hard to go on reading, because of the way the crimes are described ... this book is not telling you a fairy-tale or a million of psychological facts, but it is telling about the deaths of girls and women - and the man who killed them.At least this book has changed my view of Ted Bundy. I have always seen him the way the media and other books have created him: The handsome, young law student, who was a cold-blooded killer on the other side. But after I had finished the book, I recognized that Ted Bundy was not the "Romeo of serial killers", he was just an ill man who needed the help of the society that created him ...Result: Leave it and you will miss one of most interesting books ever written. Read it and it may change you.

To complain that Ted Bundy's "confession" is boring is to miss the point. Our culture worships sociopaths; witness the glamorization of, for a single example, Billy the Kid. Read the royalty figures and gate receipts for Hannibal, Nine-Inch Nails, Natural Born Killers, American Psycho. The unwitting service that Ted Bundy did for us, to pay for his crimes, was to provide a living witness that people like him are boring mechanics, no more interesting than shotguns or chainsaws. It is sad, that men like Bundy become celebrities in a culture where, as John Fowles notes, being remembered is the only immortality available. (A former friend once observed to me that she wanted to be famous, "like Virginia Woolf or Heather Locklear.") We should remember their victims and let the memory of the monsters die. Take a lesson from the Indians and erase the names of the evil dead.Michaud and Aynesworth have done the next best thing. If we must remember Bundy, let's remember what he really was. A dull, pedestrian mind; a B+ student whose idea of intellecutal achievement was to become a lawyer or a politican; an average American who developed an ugly hobby. He was a self-important non-entity, wrapped in illusions of courage, strength, and genius and reduced, in his last days, to murdering little girls. A dangerous machine. And not a broken machine. The danger of a chainsaw is that it works. Serial killers are not broken. That is, they can't be fixed. Bundy was right about one other thing. The death penalty. Read this book, if you think serial killers are interesting, exciting. They are the all-star wrestlers of the intellectual elite, a sham and a disgrace to their admirers.
